save us with your delicious steaks...

so i was slaving away in the salt mines last night (also known as the outbound telesales department of omaha steaks) and i call a guy who asks me what we are doing for hurricane katrina relief. and i tell himthat we have a number of collection stations that employees have been encourgaed to donate to. and he says thats all fine and dandy but what is omaha steaks doing for the victims of the hurricane. i told him i was unsure if there had been an official company response to the hurricane releif effort, but if he would hold for just one second i would be more than willing to check with my supervisor.

i put the guy on hold and wlaked over to mike and asked him if omaha steaks had done anything for releif. and he said that indeed the company had. they had coordinated with the red cross and had sent down severel shipments of food (mostly burgers, franks, and the side dishes like veggies, potatoes and what not.)

now let me stop the story and say that that is a pretty fine thing for omaha steaks to do. i don't know how much they sent down but i am sure it was a fairly sizable amount. most people wouldn't have thought better or worse of them for not sending and food. but they did it any way. and they did it in the right frame of mind because they didn't go around trumpeting about it. and now back to the story.

so i get back on the phone with the gentleman and i tell him what mike told me. and they guy then asks me... wait for it... "well are you sending them steaks?" at this point i knew the sale was not going to happen and that this guy was just being an idiot. so i told him that we where sending burgers and franks and varous other food stuffs, but i was unsure if they where actually sending steaks. he wanted me to fax him all of the information about our releif efforts and then if he liked it he would buy. so i wrote down his fax number bid him farewell and procceded to put the fax number in the circualr file. (that means trash can) because i am sure that the hungry people still living in the toxic swamp that was new orleans are thinking to themselves "damn, if only i had some bacon wrapped filet mignons, or even some nice flat iron steaks. that would really make all my suffering dissapear." i think they are happy to have food that is edible, so they can quit eyeing the corpse that has been bobbing in the sewage flood water looking more and more tempting.

the guy was also very annoying because he keep hacking up these juicy coughs right in my ear. and then he was chewing on something very loudly. all i coudl think was that he was hacking up something that was thick enough for him to chew on. gross.
